PostHeaderIcon Rims and Tires Compatibility

Rims and wheels are always used interchangeably.  But actually, they are two different things.  The rim is the wheel’s edge in which the tire is fitted upon.  The rim is the ring of the wheel.  The rims are what attaches the center of the wheel.  The center and the rim together are what make up the wheel.  The wheels are the circular rings on which the tires are mounted.  The only thing that touches the surface of the road is the tire.

All the time, the tire technology is high and with these, rim quality is also getting better.  Even if you have an average car, a great tire can do wonders to your drive.  Although tires fit on particular rims, that does not mean that they are compatible.  There are some factors that affects compatibility such as the rim lip and tire bead type, load ratings and tire sidewall strength.

The best way to improve vehicle performance is through plus sizing or through increasing the tire and rim size.  It also improves the appearance of your vehicle.  Rims usually survive the car’s lifetime while tires are subjected to friction that occurs from its constant contact with the road surface.  This is what causes the tire’s outer perimeter to wear away eventually.
